Key Applications by Products in Pharma Industry
These gaskets are made of silicone so they meet biocompatibility standards such as USP Class VI and EU/ISO. On top of that, the platinum-cured silicone gaskets are test-approved to be non-leachable i.e. the backbone is composed of silicone-oxygen instead of being carbon-based, making them unreactive to food, drugs or body tissues. Therefore, they are often used in fluid transfer, sanitary pipes and tank connections. Moreover, Makvin Polymer also takes pride in being a tri clamp gasket manufacturer, producing trustworthy products to be used in transfer lines, bioreactors, filtration skids and WFI systems.
Further, Makvin Polymer’s gaskets restrict any kind of microbial growth on them, making them apt for cleanroom equipment and dispensary equipment. To add on, they can withstand freezing temperatures from −60 °C to boiling temperatures of 200 °C, making them pragmatic choices for laboratory equipment. Last but not the least, since they are flexible, they naturally become a go-to product for equipment seals like lids and doors on autoclaves, lyophilizers, reactors, filter housings etc.

Made by an extrusion process and cured either with peroxide or platinum (preferable especially for pharmaceuticals), silicone tubes like gaskets, have a silicone-oxygen backbone. This makes these tubes low leachable as well as biocompatible, genuinely meeting USP Class VI, FDA, and EP standards. Such a standard of pharmaceutical silicone tubing appears to be helpful in fluid transfer, like to move buffers, media, APIs and finished product between tanks, filters, and fillers.
Furthermore, Makvin Polymer’s platinum-cured silicone tubing comes with high temperature resistance (from −60 °C to 200 °C), making it suitable for sterilization, processing and storing without contaminating the products. This medical-grade silicone tubing offers dependable elasticity that becomes a go-to choice for peristaltic pumps, especially because consistent rebounds ensure smooth suction and accuracy with flow rate, thereby never allowing the fluid to touch the pump that prevents cross-contamination.

Although silicone hoses seem somewhat similar to silicone tubes, the difference lies in their made and pressure handling capacity. Silicone hoses have a comparatively larger diameter and usually consist of multiple layers of polyester or stainless steel wire braiding or helix. This property allows a silicone hose to transfer in bulk, unlike tubes, that too without collapsing. One of the leading hose manufacturers, Makvin Polymer’s thick-walled silicone hoses perform at high when used in tri-clamp connections to form a quick and cleanable joint. Since these hoses are also biocompatible and non-leachable, they not only aid with sanitary purposes, but also become a great fit to transfer purified water, steam condensate and cleaning solutions.
Moreover, these PE braided silicone hoses are widely referred in the pharmaceutical industry for large-proportion fluid transfer like moving water, buffers, WFIs and product between tanks, reactors, and filling lines. Not just limited to fluid, these silicone hoses also act as vacuum hoses, expanding their usage in the pharma industry for vacuum filtration, transfer of powders and granules, freeze-drying connections etc.

Solid Silicone rubber profiles are basically rubber strips that are dense and non-porous, and are usually extruded into a fixed cross-section. These D, P, U, round, square, flat or custom-shaped profiles are widely perceived in the pharma industry as seals or gaskets, useful for keeping the concerned equipment sterile and contamination-free.
The reason why solid silicone rubber profiles are preferred over silicone sponge profiles is that these platinum-cured, medical-grade profiles leave absolutely no residue, unlike sponge profiles that might leave a negligible amount behind. Apart from this comparative win, these products are renowned in the pharma industry because of their wide temperature range and long life span, for they do not wither when exposed to moisture, ozone and UV. Common applications include cleanroom uses, coating tablets or capsules, lyophilisers etc.

FAQs
To begin with, silicone gaskets are great for seals in equipment and silicone hoses are useful for transferring multiple fluids in bulk. Further, silicone sponge profiles are the first choices when it comes to providing cushioning to fragile equipment. In a nutshell, which silicone grade to use varies with the intention against the products.
Apart from silicone’s trait to be flexible and thermally stable, its high-grade hygiene, durability and wide temperature range makes it the go-to material for the pharma industry. However, one should keep in mind to evaluate chemical compatibility, sterilization conditions and regulatory requirements before finalizing which material suits the set of requirements.
Both silicone tubes and hoses are biocompatible and possess a wide temperature range, with PE braided hoses supporting fluid transfer in bulk amounts. On the basis of product specification, they are proven to withstand sterilization processes like autoclaving.
The most important reason to prefer platinum over peroxide is that platinum-cured silicone products are absolutely non-leachable and leave no volatile residue behind, preventing any kind of unfavorable consequences. Further, since platinum-cured silicone is more transparent, it helps in clear inspection.
